The William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation, an award-winning nonprofit, announces Travis E. Mitchell, Senior Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Maryland Public Television, as this year’s Featherstone Changemaker Award recipient. This prestigious prize recognizes an influential leader who drives social change and makes a positive impact in the community.
Travis Mitchell will be honored on August 8, 2025 during the Featherstone Awards Ceremony, an annual event that showcases Baltimore’s most promising youth and promotes academic equity in higher education.
Mitchell joins an accomplished list of Featherstone Changemaker Award recipients:
- Frances Murphy Draper, CEO and publisher, The AFRO-American Newspapers (2024)
- Alicia Wilson, co-founder, Black Philanthropy Circle (2023)
- Catalina Rodriguez, director, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (2022)
- Monica Mitchell, co-founder, Lillie May Carroll Jackson Middle School (2021)
- Pamela King, senior program manager, Open Society Institute, Baltimore (2020)
Mitchell will be honored during the Featherstone Awards Ceremony, an annual event that showcases Baltimore’s most promising youth and promotes academic equity in higher education. During the Awards ceremony, twenty three exceptional students will receive Featherstone College Scholarships to attend Coppin State University, Morgan State University, The University of Baltimore and other institutions.
WBAL-TV 11 News Baltimore Anchor and Reporter Jason Newton will emcee the awards ceremony. The lineup includes:
- Rodrigo Mendivil, head of community affairs, Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico
- Travis E. Mitchell, senior vice president and chief content officer, Maryland Public Television
- Kurt L. Schmoke, president, The University of Baltimore
