
Alexis M. Young
Program Officer
Alexis M. Young, a Program Officer, manages the Foundation’s college and career readiness initiatives. She collaborates with students, administrators, and other education stakeholders to provide young people with meaningful educational, professional, and financial opportunities.
Alexis comes to the Foundation as a former teacher in both Detroit public and charter schools. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum, both from Michigan State University.Her first-hand accounts of working in schools with students informs her dedication to using education, in a multitude of forms, as a vehicle to help improve the lives of students. Her commitment to equity, system reforms, and dismantling institutional barriers is demonstrated through the implementation of targeted programming designed to further equip students with resources to obtain the futures they desire.
In addition to her work at the Featherstone Foundation, Alexis is working toward obtaining a Ph.D in Minority & Urban Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her scholarship seeks to (re)imagine a world where Black girls are seen as experts and change-agents toward their liberation and is largely inspired by her toddler daughter.
